I have to say I'm not unhappy the holidays are over. I managed to have dessert-free holidays (because of gestational diabetes) and that, my friends, was no fun at all. I have a sweet tooth and my godmother makes a table-full of dessert for the New Year's Day party. Trust me, resisting was hard. But I did it, I saw the doc and so far, I don't have to be an insulin junkie and I'm very relieved about that.
GD sucks but it's been pretty manageable for me. However, my sugars can get really high in the mornings and I found I just can't eat carbs at all for breakfast if I want my sugars to stay at a normal level. So I've been eating eggs, bacon (or sausage) and cheese every morning and I'm already sick of eggs. Oh well. I can't skip breakfast because I've already lost some weight and the doc didn't like that.
Oh and between seeing my GD doc every two weeks and my regular doc every two weeks, I feel like I'm always at the hospital!
So, 2010 is over and what a crazy, wonderful year it has been. Among the highlights:
-Chris and I went to Berlin and Copenhaguen in March. It was a great trip, though Chris' back problems made it difficult at times. But I'm glad we went as we're not expecting to go to Europe again anytime soon.
-We bought a house! And when I say "house", I really mean a condo (first floor and basement of a duplex), but it feels like a house to us. The place is 100 years old and we still have work to do on it, but we love it and we love our neighbourhood.
-And of course, THE highlight of the year is my pregnancy. After 20 months of trying, I finally got a positive on June 25th, one of the most wonderful days of my life. I'm also lucky to have a pretty easy pregnancy (even with GD) so far. I hope the birth will go as well ;)
As far as knitting goes, 2010 hasn't exactly been a great year. I lost my knitting mojo for months, plus I had bad luck with some projects. Therefore, I have only finished EIGHT projects! And small ones at that. It's pretty unbelievable. Now, I don't know how much knitting I'll have time to do in 2011, but I'm hoping I can have more than eight FO.
My favourites of the year:
Potpourri mittens
Cable and rib socks
Kai-Mei
I haven't finished anything for baby yet, but my goal is to finish my baby blanket before the end of January (I finally started the border). I also have a few small projects in mind that I think I may be able to finish before he gets here.
I'll end my first post of 2011 by sending tons of virtual hugs to my friend Tara and her beautiful daughter Émilie. You are strong and wonderful and I'm keeping you in my thoughts.

The knitting looks great! It's too bad about the GD, but at least it's probably temporary. I had IGT (one level below GD) with Jakob, and had to give myself insulin before bed 'cus I couldn't get my morning sugars low enough with the food I ate before bed. It wasn't as hard as I'd thought, though it got annoying to go to the hospital so often and pay for parking! The bonus was getting to do an extra ultrasound and see the baby though :)
I'm late reading this, but rest assured I have received your virtual hugs :) Love you muchly, sweetie.
